In a meeting held on October 11, 2023, with the Ministry of Environment’s advisors, Vahakan Kabakian and Manal Moussallem, extensive discussions addressed key strategies to improve Lebanon’s environmental situation within the microfinance sector. Several critical points were explored: a focus on the current plans initiated by the present Prime Minister, aiming to attract investors despite the economic and political crises. Efforts were identified to support vulnerable populations through tariff reductions for low-income citizens. Paths of collaboration between the Ministry and Micro Finance Institutions were discussed, focusing on social responsibility, capacity building in waste treatment, reduction of unregistered suppliers, and the rise in exports, particularly in the agro-food industry post-crises.
